Ohio Car Buffs

April 29th, 2009 by Kimberly Whitis

I have discovered that some of our Ohio staff and even clients are old car buffs like me. Mrs. Terri Green, former HCA of Hocking Correctional, is fond of her late 60’s Camaro’s. Dr Franz, of CCI, is a proud Mustang owner like my self. I thought some of you would like to know about a large car show being held in Columbus, OH, in July. The Good Guys Rod & Custom Show will be held at the Expo Center on July 10, 11, 12th and will host 2000-3000 hotrods. My husband and I will be exhibiting our Mustang and I would love to see some of you there. There is no need to be a hotrod owner to attend, spectators are more than welcome. Follow the link to the “Good Guys” website for more info. Hope to see you there!

Back to work after a rejuvenating vacation!

April 27th, 2009 by Kimberly Whitis

I’ve returned from my week long quilting adventure rejuvenated and ready to tackle our new recruiting challenges.  I spent this last week in Paducah, KY at the National Quilt Convention where I found inspiration in the talent and patience it took to design and complete those beautiful quilts.  I know this is a long shot but I figure it takes talent, patience and imagination to be a recruiter as well!  Upon my return to the office I found that we are expanding our dental services into Florida.  My task is now to find dentists and assistants for the new portable route we are developing.  I’m thankful we are expanding into some southern states.  Florida in winter sounds so much better than Cleveland in winter.  No offense to Cleveland though as I’ve grown fond of the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and Case Western.  Ok, so I’m off to begin my quilt inspired recruiting adventure!

Needle Safety

April 23rd, 2009 by Kim Mosby

MAH  experienced a 42% increase in Workers Comp claims in
2008.  We are not off to a good start in 2009.  Needle Sticks was the number one claim in 2008 and continues to be an issue in 2009.

Recapping of needles should be limited and safety devices must be used.  The BenCo catalogue has
a couple of different items that can be used.

Safety gloves should be used in the sterilization process of instruments.
Protect yourself.  Think Safety!!

Overdoing it

March 23rd, 2009 by Kim Mosby

With the second nice weekend in a row, most people will be finding themselves out in the yard or in the park.  It has been a long winter and we must be careful not to over do it.  Just like baseball you have to have spring training and get ready for the season.  The same can hold true for us weekend yard warriors or athletes.   Don’t forget to stretch those muscles,  lift with the legs and not the back.   Work yourself into shape and be ready to play all summer.

Don’t forget spring is also time for motorcycles.  Be aware one of them could be me.

Tens Reasons why MAH’s Portable Unit is Right for You

March 23rd, 2009 by Cassandra Wuensch

Ten Reasons Why MAH’s Portable
Unit Is Right For You!
Here are 10 reasons that differentiate Mid America Health, Inc. (MAH) from other dental healthcare providers.
1. Years of Experience
Mid America Health, Inc. has been in business for over 22 years…we began business in 1986. Since businesses come (and go out of business) every year, our longevity means our business formula works.
2. Convenience
We come to you. We bring our portable equipment, supplies and our professional team to your facility. We provide complete on-site consultations, dental care, on-site X-rays, surgical and follow-up services.
3. Cost Effective
MAH offers a different pricing model – a flat daily rate. MAH guarantees a fixed price instead of separate billing for each patient. Whether we see 5 patients or 15– your cost will be the same. This allows you to accurately budget for the entire year.
4. Increases Safety
By coming to your facility, we eliminate the need for potentially dangerous off-site visits. All our work is done in the safety of your facility. This increases your cost-savings by eliminating the transportation costs associated with off-site dental visits.
5. Flexible Scheduling
We come when you need us to. There are no minimum visits required. This allows you to focus on other tasks.
6. Free Visits
We offer a one-time free visit to each facility considering using our services. This allows you to “test-drive” our services, meet our practioners and see how convenient our services are.
7. No Long-term Contracts
MAH does not require a long-term contract. We understand the way smaller correctional facilities operate. We will lock-in your price for 12 months but you can cancel any time if you feel our services are no longer needed.
8. Recognized In The News
MAH was recently recognized as the 16th fastest growing private company in Indiana. A very reassuring notion given our current economic troubles. MAH grows every year and will continue to do so.
9. A Solutions Partner
MAH partners with several medical management companies to provide dental healthcare to jails, small prisons and juvenile facilities. MAH manages your dental needs while you manage your facility.
10. Our Professional Team
From our Sales Representative to our Dentist to our Dental Assistant, MAH employees help set the standards for dental healthcare providers. All our services are in accordance with the standards set by the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) and American Correctional Association (ACA). Let us put our experience to work for you.

Wow!  What a wonderful today it turned out to be on Friday, March 6th!  We couldn’t have asked for better weather for our Open House.  We had a wonderful turn out.  It was so good to see our field staff. We couldn’t do this without you.  Some of them drove several hours to celebrate with us.  It seems that the warm weather this weekend has reminded us that spring is just around the corner.  Spring Break is almost here!  We would like to thank everyone who attended our Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Friday and helped make our celebration such a success.  We will be posting pictures on our website, so be sure to check them out!

By the way, if you’re heading to Las Vegas for Spring Break…be sure to say hello to Patrick and Jose’.  They will be attending the NCCHC Updates conference in Las Vegas April 4-7.  If you are planning to be near Louisville, KY April 26-30, stop by and say hello to me.  I will be attending the American Jail Association Conference.

MID AMERICA HEALTH CELEBRATES MARDIS GRAS/FAT TUESDAY!

March 3rd, 2009 by Beth Parks

Do not eat the baby Jesus, please.

Do not eat the baby Jesus, please.

Mardis Gras literally means Fat Tuesday. This celebration has grown in popularity in the recent years. The origin of Fat Tuesday goes back to the Catholic Church and is basically the “last hurrah” before the Lenten season begins, which is a time of fasting, sacrifice and prayer.

A known tradition of Mardis Gras is the King Cake. The cakes are made in a circle, and in early days, a coin or bean was hidden inside the cake, and whoever found the item was said to have good luck in the coming year. Today, bakers now put a small baby, representing the Christ Child in the cake; the recipient is then expected to host the King Cake for the next year!

Mid America Celebrated with our own King Cakes straight from New Orleans!! Mardis Gras beads, gold, purple, and green all around!

Ohio Staffing Increases

February 27th, 2009 by Kimberly Whitis

With the economy in such a sad state I am pleased to report we have positions available for dentists in need of a job.  We are hiring dentists and auxiliary staff for Indiana and Ohio positions.

Mid America Health is so thankful that we can offer dental professionals stable positions and job security during these uncertain economic times.  Prison dentistry may not sound appealing to some, but it’s actually quite rewarding and the patients really do appreciate their care and the dental staff.  Unfortunately, we have had several reports that some private practices are struggling to maintain production and have laid off staff.  We wish them strength to endure in the coming months.

On a positive note we have begun the recruiting process for the planned staffing increases effective July 1st for Ohio.  We will need additional staff at the following locations:

·         Chillicothe Correctional, in Chillicothe http://www.drc.state.oh.us/Public/cci.htm

·         Hocking Correctional, in Nelsonville http://www.drc.state.oh.us/Public/hcf.htm

·         Madison Correctional, in London http://www.drc.state.oh.us/Public/maci.htm

·         Mansfield Correctional, in Mansfield http://www.drc.state.oh.us/Public/manci.htm

·         Pickaway Correctional, in Orient http://www.drc.state.oh.us/Public/pci.htm

·         Richland Correctional, in Mansfield http://www.drc.state.oh.us/Public/rici.htm

·         Ross Correctional, in Chillicothe http://www.drc.state.oh.us/Public/rci.htm

·         Southern Ohio Correctional, in Lucasville http://www.drc.state.oh.us/Public/socf.htm

Happy Friday!
